On the 18th of January 2025, the Interim executives of the Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) Volksrust Ward 8 paid a donor visit to SAVF Louis Hildebrandt Child and Youth Care Centre in Volksrust, Mpumalanga, which is situated in the North Eastern part of South Africa. The visiting team comprised Hon Chidi Ugwu, who serves as NUSA Secretary of Volksrust Ward 8, and Hon Carlos Ndukwu, who is the Vice Chairman of the Volksrust Ward 8 and were accompanied by NUSA Provincial Chairman, Hon Uchenna Nwaebiem. Items donated during the visit include writing materials and food items. The centre’s management and staff warmly welcomed the visiting team, who expressed their gratitude for NUSA’s thoughtful gesture.
While the primary purpose of the visitation was to donate relief items for the children at the orphanage as schools were resuming across the country, it was also an opportunity for NUSA to learn more about the SAVF Louis Hildebrandt Child and Youth Care Centre work and to further understand the needs of the organisation and how NUSA can be of support. During the visit, the NUSA team was given a comprehensive tour of the facility, where they observed the living conditions of the children and interacted with both the staff and young residents. The team was particularly impressed by the centre’s dedication to providing a nurturing environment for the children.

In his address, the Vice Chairman of NUSA Ward 8 in Volksrust, Hon Carlos Ndukwu, thanked the management of the Center for honouring NUSA’s request while he promised that there would be more frequent visits with a pledge for more donations. “Our visit is to show our love and concern for our fellow family members as we request a need list from the centre. We pray that the kids will grow to be better men and women in our communities. We promise to make more frequent visits along with more donations,” Ndukwu pledged. The centre’s management responded by sharing their immediate needs and long-term goals, emphasizing the importance of community support in achieving their mission.

SAVF Louis Hildebrandt Child and Youth Care Centre provides safe care and protection to over 100 children placed by children’s court due to neglect, abandonment, or abuse. Operating since 1998, the centre focuses on fulfilling children’s basic needs, including shelter, security, healthcare, food, clothing, and education. Their professional team of caregivers, social workers, and support staff provides individualized care, emotional support, and counselling to help children build a better future.
NUSA, on the other hand, founded in 2008, is a non-profit organisation representing Nigerians in South Africa. It is open to Nigerians and their families and builds a supportive community while addressing challenges and contributing positively to host communities across South Africa.
