SCSN Condemns U.S. Listing of Nigeria as ‘Country of Particular Concern’
The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN), Kaduna State Chapter, has criticized the United States for recently labeling Nigeria as a “Country of Great Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians.
In a statement, the Council’s Secretary, Engr. Hassan Abdul Rahman, described the move by the Trump administration as “one-sided,” arguing that it fails to reflect the complex factors behind insecurity in the country.
“The Council is not happy with this development on allegations regarding Christian g+n%cide in Nigeria. The U.S. should have sought a balanced perspective before reaching conclusions,” he said.
Abdul Rahman maintained that Nigeria’s security challenges stem from ethnic, political, and economic tensions rather than a deliberate campaign against Christians. He added that available data shows Muslims are also frequently victims of v+olence.
He accused Western nations of selective concern, claiming they amplify incidents affecting Christians while downplaying violence against Muslims globally. “Wherever Muslims are k+lled, it doesn’t concern the West. This bias breeds distrust,” he said.
The Council also faulted the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), accusing it of promoting narratives that heighten religious division. Abdul Rahman warned that if the nation becomes destabilized, all religious groups will suffer the consequences.
He called on Nigerians to reject external influence and focus on unity. “Let us not allow foreign lies to divide us. Through understanding and cooperation, Nigeria can overcome its challenges. We must resolve our differences without inviting outsiders to d+stroy the only nation we have,” he added.
